Moxie Wild was formed in 2016 by Petra Taggart and Melissa Werkman - two friends who love spending time outdoors adventuring by bike and wanted to help other women discover the same joy and confidence.
Petra recently (sadly!) moved to the Pacific Northwest with her husband and while she has had to step back from Moxie Wild, she continues to be a very valued advisor from afar.
Melissa grew up in Maine and while she traversed across the country to the desert Southwest for college, her need to be active and moving among green trees, fresh water and four seasons won out so she settled in Michigan where she has lived for the past 20 years.
She has spent most of her adult life working for and volunteering with organizations that promote health and wellness in the outdoors, with a particular emphasis on doing so with women and kids. She finds great joy in helping others find their strength and confidence outdoors, as she did. As a result, she got the itch to start a guide service that would do just that for other women. The stars aligned when she met Petra, who had the same idea, and shortly after they became friends, Moxie Wild was born.
Melissa is an IMBA Level 1 Certified Ride Guide and Fundamentals Instructor, holds her NOLS Wilderness First Aid and Outdoor Survival and Improvisation - SS1 Certification.
When not cooking up Moxie Wild adventures, she is the executive director of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association. To clear her head and help her be a better human being, she rides bikes, runs, camps, fly fishes with her husband, enjoys cooking (and eating!) and sipping on good bourbon. She most especially loves spending time with her family and dog - preferably outside.
