Petra hails from Northern California and has been in Michigan for nearly 3 years now. She grew up playing in the dirt with spoons, riding bikes, and building tree forts with her three siblings. Enjoying sports, new experiences, and the outdoors led Petra to study Therapeutic Recreation and Special Education at California State University Chico.
Petra is a certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, a licensed special education teacher, an International Mountain Bicycling Association Level 1 Ride Guide and Fundamentals Instructor, holds her NOLS Wilderness First Aid, and her Survival and Improvisation - SS1 certificate - all of which assist her in helping others try new things and fall in love with the outdoors.
Her time is filled with camping (in tents and Jeffrey - her 1983 Casita Camper), snowboarding, eating snacks, riding mountain bikes, tromping in the snow, asking her husband to ride more bikes or plan another camp trip, hiking her dogs Billie and Mox, sipping beer and making new friends.
Melissa grew up in Maine and while she traversed across the country to the desert southwest for college, her need to be active and moving among trees, fresh water and four seasons never left, so she settled in Michigan. She has spent most of her adult life working and volunteering for organizations that promote health and wellness, with a particular emphasis on women and children. She finds great joy in helping other people find their strength and confidence through outdoor recreation as she did. As a result of these experiences, she had the itch to start a guide service that would do just that for other women. Fortunately, Petra was too and shortly after they became friends, Moxie Wild was born.
Like Petra, Melissa is an International Mountain Bicycling Association Level 1 Ride Guide and Fundamentals Instructor, holds her NOLS Wilderness First Aid and Outdoor Survival and Improvisation - SS1 certification.
When not hanging with Petra planning Moxie Wild adventures, Melissa is the director of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association. To clear her head and help her be a better human being, she rides bikes, runs, camps, fly fishes with her husband, enjoys cooking and sipping on bourbon. She most especially loves spending time with her family and dog - preferably outside.
